Questions?
-
The cost can always vary in every setting. But a ROUGH GUIDE for a typical home is usually between £600-£1000.
-
It’s not always a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. There could be an underlying safety problem, as many old fuse boards won’t have the technology to tell you that there is a fault. Meaning, if one day you accidentally touched the circuit, the consequences could be potentially fatal.
Before upgrading any fuse board we will complete an EICR (condition report), which is a test of any fixed wiring.
-
Similar to a boiler, your fuse box (consumer unit) will typically need replacing every 20-30 years.
This is because technologies are always improving with safety in mind.
-
Firstly, a fuse board is the electric box in your house that powers your sockets, lights, ovens etc.
Below are a few reasons you may need a new fuse board:
As a rule of thumb, if you can see signs of overheating- maybe discolouring or black marks around the board- you may want to get a second opinion by a qualified electrician.
If you have no RCD*, it’s a good idea to update your fuse board for safety reasons.
If your fuses are obsolete and additional circuits are required in your property, for example in a new extension, we wouldn’t connect onto the existing fuse board for safety reasons.
This would be pointed out and agreed before any work starts.
If your fuse board makes cracking and popping noises, get a qualified electrician to come over and have a look ASAP. Contact us here.
