Questions?
-
“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” Well, not exactly. Here’s why…
If your fuse board is wooden or has re-wirable fuses.
These examples are not up to current regulations & are signs of an ageing system. While it may seem perfectly safe, the likelihood is there will be at least a few underlying safety issues & if a fault develops, can risk everyone's safety within the property. Contact us to get our professional opinion on this.
Rubber & Fabric cables
They are extremely old, fragile & very likely unsafe.
This is a very obvious sign you should get a qualified electrician to take a deeper look at your wiring to test the safety of your system, this is also known as an EICR. You can find out more about EICRs here.
Signs of overheating
This may be an obvious one, but it’s not one you should leave. Any signs of overheating left untested can have a huge consequence. Potentially severe.
You’re planning an extension or refurbishment in an older property
If your electrical system is dated, any major works can cause high strain on your existing cables. To counter this, we’re happy to assess your needs & advise before you start any work & get caught out. The worst thing would be to have a lovely new extension & 1 year later require a full re-wire on your house!
You haven’t got any record of a valid EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report)
This doesn’t mean if you haven’t got a certificate that you must re-wire your space, but it’s always smart to keep a valid EICR.
It could save you a lot of money as it can prove your home DOES NOT need re-wiring. Click to find out more about EICRs.

There’s no one size fits all when it comes to re-wires. Every installation is different. While some installations may appear very straightforward, there could be lots of things to consider.
On average, prices can range typically from £3500-£10,000 (estimates only). But a site visit would be required to calculate a custom, fixed price for your space.
-
Some re-wires don’t require all walls to be chased out. But the majority will. Especially custom rewires where there are many new points required, this will require chasing out walls & lifting of floor boards.
We can recommend & project manage decorators to follow in swiftly behind us, leaving your walls good as new.

Typically, no if it’s a full re-wire.
The disruption* is a lot more than most people realise, it will take a lot less time & installation costs will be lower if it’s clear & unoccupied.
*the disruption is standard practice & is not dangerous, it can just be difficult to live with for most.
